3 p.m., the vans were packed, and we were ready to head for St. Louis! But before we hit the hills for the Arch, we had to make an important stop at one of I-55's most renown restaurants. That's right, the home of the Throwed Rolls...Lamberts! Little did we know that on a Saturday night leading up to Spring Break, just about every other tour bus, youth group, and large family had the same idea. After an hour's wait, we sat down and prepared to practice our hand-eye coordination while catching some hot buttered rolls! Everyone stuffed themselves silly with home cookin', perfect for lulling all (but the drivers!) to sleep for the remainder of the drive. Nothing like some white gravy to bring about the Z's!
We rolled into the parking lot of Faith Lutheran Church in Oakville, Missouri, at around 10 p.m. and were greeted by their facilities manager, Wayne. After showing everyone the all-important shower facilities, the group set up camp in the basement children's area. Rested up from the drive, they were pumped and ready for a late night of game playing, music listening, bean bag fighting, and all the other fun that seems to arise when a large empty room and sleeping bags are involved.
Overall, Saturday provided our group with the opportunity to get comfortable with one another and set the tone for a great week of working hard to serve St. Louis! We were overwhelmed by the wonderful set-up we have here at Faith Lutheran. A welcoming staff, beautiful facilities, and a Starbucks, a gas station, and a Walgreens on all adjacent corners! No coordinating trips to Wal-Mart for that pesky toothbrush you forgot at home...hooray!
